BIBLICAL PRIME DIRECTIVE: “I will be their God; they will be my people.”
Have you ever wonder what is on God’s mind? Perhaps you’re convinced that God does exist, that there is a Creator and Sustainer of our world, but beyond that, what is God like and what is His purpose? What is His purpose for the human race, for each of us? Well, the Bible makes it clear that God created us for Himself. God loves each of us, and He created the human race in order to draw out a people for Himself, here on earth and for eternity. (See this repeated in the passages below)
God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit—the three Persons of the Biblical Godhead—exist together in perfect harmony and oness—in their love for each other, their holy character, their intent, and their action. This is the best and clearest understanding of the Biblical doctrine called the Trinity. God created human beings with the gift of personhood (intellectual, emotional, and volitional creatures with the ability to love) in order to bring us into that eternal oneness relationship that exists in the Godhead (Jesus’ prayer in John 17).
When Adam and Eve disobeyed God, the entire human race (present genetically in the first couple) fell under God’s just condemnation—spiritual death, relational separation from the Creator. But, even before the creation, God had pre-planned a way for even fallen, sinful humans to be forgiven and “born again”, into a new race of the redeemed.
As early as Genesis 3:15, and hundreds of times afterward, the Bible states clearly and pictures repeatedly the idea that God Himself would take on flesh as a Redeemer, a Savior, a Messiah, who would live a perfect human life of perfect faith, total submission, and perfect obedience to the Father, then the sinless one would become sin for us, taking the penalty of our sin (death) upon Himself. Substitutionary Atonement was at the heart of God’s redemptive plan, a plan that Jesus of Nazareth was born to carry out and as the perfect Man of faith did indeed carry out perfectly and successfully on our behalf.
The Bible states that God reveals Himself at some level to every human being (yes, children in the womb, children, and the mentally and/or emotionally disturbed) and allows each one to respond with humility, gratitude, longing and faith, OR with pride, resistence and rejection. Only our perfectly just and omniscient God is qualified and able to make this judgment, but He knows each and all who respond with sincere longing for God, a desire for goodness and righteousness, and trust in His mercy and grace (unmerited favor). To them, based on the finished work of Messiah Jesus, is given the gift of forgiveness and eternal life through Messiah Jesus, our Lord.
We the Redeemed from every nation, tribe, and language, and throughout all the centuries, are spiritual Israel, the people of God. This spiritual Harvest is at the heart of everything that happens in this world. From our individual experiences, family or community events, or even international interactions, God is in the mix, revealing Himself, showing people their need of a Savior, and molding and shaping His people for use here on earth and for our destiny with Him in glory. We indeed have become His people, and He is our God.
